Per Diem General Assignment Reporter: WFLD is seeking a General Assignment Reporter. The successful incumbent will gather and disseminate news. Communicate to the assignment desk the daily happenings in the field by covering day-to-day news stories through the use of strong writing and live reporting skills, performing as a fill in anchor, and responding to breaking news. Responsible for gathering story information from various news sources and determining the worthiness of each story, idea, tip, etc. Strong knowledge of national and international events, as well as the ability to cover local stories. Keep news management and newscast producer apprised of all breaking news and changes in previous assignments. Communicate with field crews for updates on story assignments. Duties include writing, planning, reporting organized gathered information, performing in-house research, and working well under pressure, social media savvy is necessary. Other duties as deemed appropriate and as assigned. REQUIREMENTS: Candidate must have a minimum of 4 years’ television news experience. A degree in Broadcast journalism and knowledge of city politics preferred. Anchoring experience required. Strong writing skills and an aggressive, innovative, resourceful, enterprising, and energetic approach is also required. Experience with newsroom computer a plus. VP, Engineering & Operations: WFLD/WPWR is seeking an experienced Vice President, Engineering and Operations. The VP reports directly to the V.P., General Manager. In addition to supervising the entire Engineering Department, the candidate’s primary charter will be to provide, manage, and maintain operations of all technical equipment as well as supervise performance of technical personnel. The successful incumbent will be responsible for developing, implementing and maintaining daily oversight of local Hub/Spoke technology to produce efficient, flawless operations. He/she must effectively manage engineering, production, news technical facilities, security, mechanical systems and tower/transmitter. He/she must develop and implement current and long range technical and technological operation plans, prepare departmental expense budgets and oversee the preparation of both current and future capital plans. Manage all technical elements of the Station's Repack project along with other associated aspects of the process. Must possess the ability to establish procedures and standards for operation and maintenance of equipment and studio operations. Responsible for station compliance with FCC, OSHA and FAA regulations. REQUIREMENTS: Candidate must have at least 7 to 10 years’ experience in a medium to large television market. SBE certification is preferred. Significant technical expertise in the planning, implementation and maintenance of television station facilities, including RF facilities. Demonstrated knowledge of IT based broadcast systems including ELC and iTX environments. A solid understanding of networking along with digital and automation technology is essential. Broadcast Maintenance Technician: WFLD is seeking an experienced Broadcast Maintenance Technician. The engineering position maintains and installs equipment at the studio and transmitter facility, provides broadcast engineering support for all news and production operations and provides assistance and training to operators. This position will perform duties at the studio including maintenance of master control and production automation systems, ingest and playback servers, routing systems, satellite distribution, microwave systems, networking equipment, server hardware, and other various facility needs as assigned. The position will also provide timely and professional support for fast-paced news and broadcast television environment. The ideal candidate will also have strong working knowledge of all components related to the transmission system, including electrical, cooling systems, encoders, exciters, antennas, and other related RF equipment. REQUIREMENTS: A minimum of five years of experience repairing and maintaining broadcast equipment and their related components. Must have a strong background in information technology and knowledge of IP networking, computer and software maintenance. Previous experience with Grass Valley iTX automation systems, Sony production switchers, ELC automation, Vinten robotics systems, Chyron graphics systems, Grass Valley routers, Evertz multiviewer, and BitCentral news playback is a plus. Willingness and ability to work varied schedules. Ability to communicate effectively with coworkers, work efficiently, and meet deadlines. Understanding of the requirements of a 24/7/365 live news operation. A bachelor degree in technical and/or electronics preferred; equivalent education/military/experience/training is acceptable. Producer: WFLD's News Department is seeking an experienced individual for an immediate opportunity in it's newsroom as a Producer. The Producer will generate fresh and engaging content to newscasts and digital. He/she is accountable for gathering, writing, editing, and producing content along with supporting anchors and reporters. The Producer will edit VOs, SOTs, teases, and the occasional PKG for newcasts; mine and facilitate content to news and digital teams; download video and create placeholders within rundown. This person will serve as a "go-to" person for EPs, assignment editors, reporters, photographers and editors regarding editing and video requests. REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor's degree or equivalent in communications, journalism, or broadcast required. Minimum of five years' experience in a medium to large television market preferred. The position will primarily focus on developing new business for Broadcast TV. The successful candidate must be able to identify qualified targets, use strong communication and presentation skills throughout the sales process and maintain a high closing ratio. We are looking for someone that can bring together all our resources (Top Rated Local News, Fox Network, Fox Sports, My Network TV, Web Sponsorships and Promotions) in a creative manner to achieve a high level of results. Other responsibilities include but are not limited to, strategically negotiating existing business along with obtaining incremental dollars from the existing market and building strong client relationships. Responsible for completing administrative tasks such as weekly forecasts, monthly reports, new business trackers, weekly meetings forms and the credit and collection of all accounts. REQUIREMENTS: Ideal candidate must possess a proven track record of success in sales. A four-year college degree is preferred. Media sales experience is strongly preferred. Knowledge of media math, TV ratings and web metrics is a plus. Candidate must be a self-starter with strong verbal and communication skills. The Topical Promotions Producer will be responsible for writing/producing/editing Fox Chicago news promotions under deadlines; production of image identity campaigns; production of compelling spots that take a unique approach and connect with viewers and increasing view tune-in through the production of top quality promotions.
