86-year-old man found shot to death in South Side apartment

The death of an 86-year-old man has just been reclassified as a homicide. He was found bleeding from the head near 41st and Wallace on Chicago’s South Side.

Family and neighbors are speechless. Police say 86-year-old Donald L. McNamara, nicknamed Donnie Mac, was murdered Thursday afternoon and described as a kind man.

His nephew says he doesn't know who would want to do this to his uncle.

More than 24 hours after his murder, Chicago police are investigating what has been reclassified as a homicide.

Police are hopeful that surveillance cameras in the area picked up the suspect in the neighborhood.

The victim was found inside his Canaryville apartment near 41st and Wallace around 4 p.m. Thursday. He was then rushed to Northwestern Hospital where he was pronounced dead

Autopsy results reveal the cause of death was a gunshot wound to the back of the head.

Neighbors say he would sit outside his first floor apartment, was a sweet man and a sharp dresser. He had some health issues and would leave his door unlocked in case of a medical emergency

His nephew says he was a truck driver for decades and father to eight kids.

The nephew FOX 32 talked to is begging the public that if you know something call, please call police.

No one is in custody for the crime.
