Cops search for hit-and-run scooter driver who left woman seriously injured

CHICAGO (Sun-Times Media Wire) - Chicago Police are searching for the driver of a scooter that struck and seriously injured a woman in the South Side Calumet Heights neighborhood last month.

The 24-year-old woman was walking on a sidewalk in the 2900 block of East 95th Street at 5:37 p.m. when she was struck by a motorized scooter, according to a police alert.

She was taken in serious condition to Advocate Trinity Hospital with head injuries, police said.

The driver of the scooter, who was illegally riding on the sidewalk, took off after the crash, police said. He is described as a black man in his mid-20s with facial hair.

Police released surveillance photos of the scooter driver taken seconds before the crash. Anyone who recognizes the him is asked to call the Major Accident Investigation Unit at (312) 745-4521.
