Man charged with Elgin shooting after trying to leave Illinois

SUN-TIMES MEDIA WIRE - A 19-year-old suspect in a July shooting in northwest suburban Elgin was arrested Tuesday night after he tried to board a flight to another state at O’Hare International Airport.

Oscar S. Sanchez has been charged with aggravated discharge of a firearm, a Class 1 felony, according to a statement from Elgin police.

About 10:40 p.m. July 7, officers responding to a shooting in the 1200 block of Spruce Lane found a home had been struck multiple times by gunfire, police said.

Detectives from the department’s Gang Crimes Unit identified Sanchez as a suspect.

About 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sanchez was arrested at O’Hare after he tried to leave the state, police said.

Sanchez, who lives in the 300 block of Hendee Street in Elgin, was ordered held at the Cook County Jail on a $250,000 bond during a hearing Thursday at the Rolling Meadows Courthouse. He is due back in court Oct. 6.
