R. Kelly being investigated for sex with girl in Detroit when she was 13

A woman claims that R. Kelly had sex with her in Detroit in 2001 when she was just 13.

Kelly met the then-teen in Detroit and allegedly had sex with her in a hotel here in the latest allegation, according to Detroit Police Chief James Craig.

Craig said he was informed of the claims a month ago by Chicago police and has reached out to the victim, who lives outside of Michigan.

He said he is waiting for a response by her or her attorney, Gloria Allred. Allred is a well-known women's rights champion, frequently involved in high-profile cases.

Kelly was just taken back into custody for unpaid back child support today and won't be released until he pays about $161,000.

Kelly was charged last month with 10 counts of aggravated sexual abuse and has pleaded not guilty. He spent a weekend in jail before someone posted his $100,000 bail. His defense attorney said at the time that Kelly's finances were "a mess."

The 52-year-old singer is accused in Chicago of sexually abusing four females dating back to 1998, including three underage girls.

An interview Wednesday with "CBS This Morning" was Kelly's first since he was charged. Kelly called his accusers liars and alleged that people are after him for his money. He told interviewer Gayle King that he never sexually abused women or controlled their lives.

R. Kelly has had a strong Detroit connection before, with R&B star Aaliyah (Haughton). Kelly's former wife married him when she was 15. The marriage was later annulled, while she died in August, 2001, in a Bahamas plane crash.
