Sheriff seeks information about man charged with 1985 Glen Ellyn murder

GLEN ELLYN, Ill. (STMW) - The DuPage County sheriff’s office is looking for anyone with information about the man charged this week with a cold-case murder in west suburban Glen Ellyn in 1985.

Michael R. Jones, 62, of Champaign is charged with the murder and sexual assault of 15-year-old Kristy Wesselman in Glen Ellyn on July 21, 1985, authorities said.

Jones told investigators he’d never seen Wesselman and denied ever being in Glen Ellyn, though DNA linked him to the murder, prosecutors said.

The sheriff’s office released photos Wednesday of Jones around the time of the murder. Authorities are asking anyone who knew Jones or had contact with him in the summer of 1985 near Glen Ellyn to call (630) 407-2333.

Jones is being held without bond in the DuPage County Jail and is scheduled to appear for arraignment Oct. 13. If convicted, he faces a possible life sentence without parole.
