A horrifying crime in Coweta County has a 29-year-old-man arrested for raping a 12-year-old girl and then fleeing half-dressed when the family called 911.

A judge denied bond to Shalin Ren Payne of Sharpsburg.

Investigators said the girl’s mother was injured when she tried to stop to the attack.

Investigators say Shalin Ren Payne was babysitting the woman’s 12-year-old daughter and her four-year-old son while their mother was at work.

A sheriff’s department body camera caught video of Shalin Ren Payne fleeing half dressed as deputies responded to the 911 call for help from the home in Sharpsburg.

According to investigators, Payne was left alone to babysit the 12-year-old girl and her four-year-old brother.  Investigators say Payne chased the 12-year-old through the home.  Broke down a bathroom door where she was hiding and attacked the girl in front of the four-year old.

And investigators say the mother, who was at work, returned home and was unable to stop the attack, even after smashing a glass dish on Payne’s head.

“He basically left the house in the nude.  He was only wearing a t-shirt,” Col. James Yarbrough of the Coweta County Sheriff’s office said.

After a brief foot chase deputies caught Payne and took him to jail after he was treated by paramedics for lacerations to his head.

Among other charges, Payne was in jail for rape, sexual battery and aggravated assault.  More charges are possible.
