7-year-old boy seriously wounded in Austin shooting

CHICAGO (FOX 32 News/ STMW) - A 7-year-old boy was shot in the back as he was sitting in the back seat of his mother’s vehicle in the Austin neighborhood on the West Side Wednesday night.

Shortly before 10 p.m., the boy was shot as he was in the back seat of the vehicle, which was parked in the 1000 block of North Leamington, police said.

His mother drove him to West Suburban Medical Center in Oak Park, but he was transferred to Lurie Children’s Hospital, police said.

Health officials say the boy is now in stable condition. 

Chicago Police officials tell FOX 32 News they do not believe the shooting is gang related and are relieved to hear the boy will be OK. 

The shooting was the second in the Austin neighborhood since Wednesday afternoon.
