CHICAGO (Fox 32 News) - The beaches were open until 11 p.m. Monday night, but that did not mean you could go swimming.
All of Chicago’s lakefront beaches had either Red or Yellow flag warnings, meaning you were not allowed or advised to go swimming. The lakefront trail was shut down due to high waves.
Waves were expected to be three to five feet Monday night along Chicago beaches. The waves were created by high water levels and strong northeast winds.
Chicago police and Fire Marine Units made three water rescues, one of them involving a pair of fishermen who got swept into the water at Montrose Beach.
The lakeshore flood advisory will last until at least 5 a.m. Tuesday when winds are expected to calm down.
