A former top aide to House Speaker Mike Madigan is fighting back against allegations of sexual harassment.
Kevin Quinn says he's trying to set the record straight.
“What was happening that we haven't seen yet? So I'll respond to the truth once I know the truth,” said attorney Shelly Kulwin.
Alaina Hampton's attorney is dismissing a 14-page response Wednesday from Kevin Quinn, which Quinn titled, “The Truth." Quinn was fired by House Speaker Mike Madigan in February when Hampton, a Democratic campaign aide, accused him of sexual harassment. Her lawyer spoke after a court hearing where Madigan's political committee and the state Democratic party asked that her lawsuit be dismissed.
“It's easy to write the truth when you're only using your documents that are out in the public. We've yet to see the internal communications that were going on at the time,” Kulwin said.
Hampton claims Quinn repeatedly called and texted her, seeking a romantic relationship. In his response, Quinn says his unprofessional texts were isolated incidents over 20 years when he had a flawless personnel record. He says Hampton has quit numerous campaign jobs over the years and exaggerated her roles on Mike Madigan's political committees. He added, "I take responsibility for sending the text messages she has publicly released between us and apologize for my attempts to get to know her outside of necessary interactions."
Hampton's attorney won't rule out a settlement.
“Look, if this case can get resolved without a lot of parties expending time and expense and aggravation, that would be fabulous,” Kulwin said.
Quinn says there's a lot of misinformation out there because of media bias against Mike Madigan and that's why he wanted "the truth" to come out.
