Oswego shelter-in-place: What we know
The Oswego Police Department is responding to an active scene in the 500 block of Colchester Drive. A shelter-in-place order is in effect in the area, which is impacting bus routes to local schools. Residents are being asked to avoid the area while police work to resolve the situation.
What we know:
The Oswego Police Department says it's currently responding to an active scene in the 500 block of Colchester Drive. There is a heavy police presence in the area, and officials have put a shelter-in-place order in place for anyone within a one-fourth mile radius as a precaution. This shelter-in-place area has been reduced, down from a one-mile radius earlier Friday.
Police said they responded to a report that led officers to a welfare check. When they arrived, a gun was discharged inside a home.
"The individual is believed to be the only one inside the residence. No injuries have been reported at this time," police said before 7 a.m.
Police said they are "actively working to safely resolve the situation."
In an update at 7:50 a.m., police said they continue to work to resolve the situation, and a shelter in place is still active for a quarter-mile around the area. No injuries have been reported.
At the scene, are armored vehicles and authorities with long guns. It's an active scene as of 8 a.m.

Oswego police respond to incident; shelter-in-place issued
The Oswego Police Department is responding to an active scene in the 500 block of Colchester Drive. A shelter-in-place order is in effect within a one-mile radius of the area as a precaution. Residents are being asked to avoid the area while police work to resolve the situation.
Local perspective:
No Oswego Community Unit School District 308 schools are within the shelter-in-place zone, but the police activity has impacted bus routes. All schools will be in session on Friday, the district says.
The district said it won't be sending buses into the shelter-in-place zone, and families who live in the area are encouraged not to leave their homes, the district said.
"We anticipate significant delays throughout our bus system this morning. Messages will be communicated to delayed routes," the district said.
Initially, the district said three schools were impacted by the shelter-in-place, including Traughber, Southbury, and Prairie Point. Now that the radius has been reduced, only one school – Traughber Jr. High – is impacted, the district said.
The district said police will be at Prairie Point, Southbury, and Traughber schools as "added security" during student arrival on Friday.
