CTA safety efforts

Big picture view:

The attack comes as the CTA and Cook County pursue transit safety efforts. Last week, the CTA launched its Safe Ride Specialist program, deploying trained crisis and violence intervention teams across the system.

Cook County sheriff’s deputies were added to patrol the tracks earlier this year. The City Council is also expected to vote on renewing the Chicago Police Department’s transit safety contract.

Police data shows overall crimes on the CTA are down about 28% this year.
