Man killed in Albany Park crash

A 48-year-old man was killed in a crash Tuesday in Albany Park on the North Side.

The crash happened about 7:03 p.m. in the 3000 block of West Irving Park Road when he struck a light pole and a building, Chicago police and fire officials said.

The impact caused “extensive damage” to the car and building, officials said.

Patrick Defreeuw was pronounced dead on the scene, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

An autopsy confirmed he died of multiple injuries sustained in the crash and ruled his death an accident, the medical examiner’s office said.

Chicago police’s Major Accidents Unit is investigating.
