Chicago shootings tick up in 2026 | The Chicago Report
After years of declines, Chicago shootings are ticking up in 2026. The city has seen 105 homicides through the first week of April, up slightly from the 98 killings seen in the same time period in 2025, according to city violence data. Another 266 people have suffered non-fatal gunshot injuries since the start of the year. Summer has not even started yet-- and many are concerned the warmer weather may bring more violence. Here to weigh in is former Chicago Police Superintendent Eddie Johnson.
