12-year-old girl shot, killed on Chicago’s South Side

A 12-year-old girl was shot and killed on Chicago’s South Side Sunday night.

CHICAGO - A 12-year-old girl was shot and killed on Chicago’s South Side Sunday night.

The shooting happened in the 9200 block of South Harper Avenue in the Calumet Heights neighborhood, according to Chicago police.

What we know:

Officers responded to the area around 8:30 p.m.

Investigators learned that the 12-year-old girl had been hit by gunfire inside a home. She was taken to Comer Children’s Hospital.

She died at the hospital.

The Cook County Medical Examiner's Office identified the girl as Dalilah Batey.

Area detectives are investigating.

Police did not say if anyone was in custody in connection with the shooting death. It was unclear how the shooting unfolded.
