17-year-old charged with Evanston armed robbery

SUN-TIMES MEDIA WIRE - A 17-year-old boy has been charged with an armed robbery earlier this month in north suburban Evanston.

Three people walked up to a Northwestern student Oct. 7 at the corner of Sheridan Road and Noyes Street and forced the student to make a withdrawal of $400 from an ATM at the Noyes Street CTA station, according to Evanston police.

Just before, the group tried to rob another student on a northbound CTA train near Noyes Street but did not get anything, police said.

A 17-year-old who was arrested in Chicago for similar robberies matched the description of a suspect in the Evanston robbery, police said. He was charged with felony counts of armed robbery and unlawful restraint. He is being held at the Cook County Juvenile Detention Center.

Police are still trying to find more suspects.
