2nd Illinois budget meeting scheduled with leaders
CHICAGO (AP) - Gov. Bruce Rauner's spokeswoman says a follow-up meeting with legislative leaders on the state budget is slated for Tuesday afternoon in Chicago.
The Republican met last week with leaders for first time in months including Democrats, House Speaker Michael Madigan and Senate President John Cullerton. The leaders have not been able to agree on a spending plan for the fiscal year that began on July 1.
Part of last week's meeting in Springfield was televised, with each leader giving an opening statement. Attendees say little was accomplished besides agreeing to meet again.
Rauner spokeswoman Catherine Kelly said the meeting will start at 3:30 p.m. at The James R. Thompson Center, where the governor has an office in downtown Chicago.
