Illinois man accused of damaging Flock cameras: 'They will fear me'

A 19-year-old was charged with several felonies after officials say he damaged a speed radar unit near an elementary school and vandalized or stole several Flock cameras in DuPage County.

Hayden Green, of Glendale Heights, was charged with three counts of theft of government property, three counts of criminal damage to government-supported property, according to the DuPage County State's Attorney's Office.

Flock cameras vandalized

The backstory:

The investigation began on Aug. 14 after police found five Flock automated license plate reader cameras in Glendale Heights had been vandalized with spray paint. The wires to one camera had been cut, while two cameras had been cut from their poles and were missing, according to officials.

Officers also found damage to a pole-mounted speed radar unit near Reskin Elementary School. The solar panel had shattered glass and a visible impact mark while wires leading to the display had been cut, officials said.

Investigators said Green carried out the vandalism and thefts between midnight and 2 a.m. on Aug. 14 in Glendale Heights and Bloomingdale.

After obtaining a search warrant, police searched Green’s vehicle and recovered a bent Sawzall blade, infrared night vision binoculars and a notepad, according to authorities.

The notepad contained writings that investigators allege were authored by Green.

"The world as it stands today appalls me, the depravity, wars, rape, all of it distracted by the hands behind this deprecated society. All of these poor misled proud boys, pigs the lot of them shall be subject to my judgment. I will save the worthy and dispatch the vermin. This world needs someone to do the dirty work. They will fear me. I will cleanse this filthy world for someone has to."

Police obtained an arrest warrant for Green on Thursday and he was taken into custody without incident.

What they're saying:

"The allegation that the defendant not only intentionally damaged numerous license plate reader cameras but cut the wires of a pole mounted radar unit near the school zone of an elementary school are outrageous," DuPage County State's Attorney Robert Berlin said in a statement. "Damaging or stealing License Plate Readers impacts the ability of police to keep the community safe. Anyone caught damaging or stealing radar units or LPR cameras will be met with the full force of the law."

What's next:

Green's next court appearance is scheduled for Sept. 14.
