Chicago Heights man fatally shot Maywood woman in front of her child: police

The Brief

    • A Chicago Heights man, Eric Key, 23, has been charged with first-degree murder in the death of a Maywood woman, Behatriz Zuniga, 35.
    • Zuniga was fatally shot on Oct. 11, in front of her 5-year-old child, police said.
    • Key was arrested in Bellwood on Dec. 11 after being identified as a person of interest in the case.

MAYWOOD, Ill. - A Chicago Heights man has been charged with first-degree murder in the shooting death of a Maywood woman earlier this year.

Eric Key, 23, was arrested Wednesday afternoon in Bellwood after officers responded to a call about a man with a gun. Police later identified Key as a person of interest in the fatal shooting of Behatriz Zuniga, 35, on Oct. 11.

Zuniga was killed in the 800 block of South 17th Avenue in Maywood. She was shot in front of her 5-year-old child, according to authorities.

Key is being held without pretrial release, police said.
