Chicago man who fired on officers during SWAT situation charged with nearly two dozen felonies

A 45-year-old man is facing charges in the attempted murder of Chicago police officers following a SWAT situation earlier this week.

What we know:

Larry Hochmuth Jr. was taken into custody late Sunday night after barricading himself inside his South Shore neighborhood residence in the 2700 block of East 76th Street, according to a preliminary statement from Chicago police.

Officials said Hochmuth Jr. allegedly fired a gun in the direction of a 44-year-old woman shortly before barricading himself inside the home.

Hochmuth Jr. then "knowingly and intentionally" opened fire on several SWAT officers who responded to the initial shooting, according to officials. No one was struck by gunfire.

He is facing nearly two dozen felony charges in connection with the incident, including eight counts of attempted murder, eight counts of aggravated discharge of a firearm in the direction of a police officer, two felony counts of aggravated assault of a peace officer, two felony counts of reckless discharge of a firearm, one felony count of aggravated discharge of a firearm toward an occupied vehicle, one felony count of possession of a weapon by a felon, and one felony count of domestic battery with a prior conviction.

Hochmuth Jr. was scheduled to appear at a detention hearing on Wednesday.
