Motorcyclist killed in DuSable Lake Shore Drive crash

Chicago police are investigating a fatal motorcycle crash that happened late Wednesday night on DuSable Lake Shore Drive.

A Chicago woman is facing a felony DUI charge in connection with a crash that killed a 48-year-old motorcyclist on Chicago’s Lake Shore Drive.

What we know:

Chicago police said Mehnoosh Hatami was riding her motorcycle along South Lake Shore Drive Wednesday night when she was fatally struck.

Police identified the driver as 25-year-old Miracle Hall, who was arrested shortly after the crash.

Hall is charged with aggravated DUI involving an accident and death. She also faces two misdemeanor DUI charges, including one alleging a blood-alcohol concentration of 0.08, as well as various traffic citations.

Hatami’s two children said their mother was on her way home from work when she was killed.

They described her as a loving and selfless mother who was always willing to help others.

What they're saying:

Hatami also loved riding motorcycles and was part of a community that supported and empowered female riders, her family said.

"If she’s looking right now from heaven, I would tell her I love her and she’s made a big impact that I didn’t know she had," her daughter, Niusha Khansanami, said. "She’ll be missed," her son, Kiarash Khansanami, said.

On Thursday night, hundreds of riders joined Chicago United Riders for a memorial ride along Lake Shore Drive to honor Hatami.

A cross was also placed at the scene of the crash.

Hatami’s family said they were deeply touched by the turnout and tribute from the motorcycle community.

Hall is expected in court Saturday for a detention hearing.

A GoFundMe has been established to help Hatami’s family with funeral and memorial expenses.

Hall has a detention hearing scheduled for Saturday.

Her service is scheduled for next Wednesday.
