Coyote torture incident under investigation in Mount Greenwood
Chicago police are investigating the death of a young coyote, reportedly abused by three men in the Mount Greenwood neighborhood.
CHICAGO - Chicago police are investigating the death of a young coyote, reportedly abused by three men in the Mount Greenwood neighborhood.
The incident occurred Saturday afternoon in the 10600 block of South Sacramento Avenue.
Neighbors claim they spotted three men abusing a young coyote. By the time police arrived, the coyote died.
At least five calls have been made to the city's 311 line regarding coyote sightings in the area since late December. Coyotes are protected under the state's wildlife code.
Neighbors who witnessed the attack said they were left distraught.
"To watch three people stomping on the coyote… my first thought was how did not one of them think that was a bad idea? How could all three of them just do that?" one neighbor said.
A family of four coyotes, including two young coyotes, have frequently visited the block for quite some time.
The neighborhood is near several acres of green space, including a golf course and a cemetery.
No arrests have been made, and the investigation is ongoing.
