Crest Hill police identify source of loud explosion heard Tuesday

The Crest Hill Police Department has determined that a loud explosion heard early Tuesday morning was caused by a firework.

At approximately 2:30 a.m., police received a report of a loud explosion in the area of Cedarwood Drive and Theodore Street. Officers responded to the scene and conducted a search of the area, where they discovered a discharged firework.

Police believe the sound of the explosion was amplified due to the lack of ambient noise in the area at the time.

To ensure public safety, authorities said they will be providing additional patrols in the area.
