Demolition underway for massive retail-apartment complex across from Wrigley Field

FOX 32 NEWS - The scene around Clark and Addison is changing.

Crews broke ground Thursday on a major retail-apartment complex across the street from Wrigley field. In addition to a movie theater, it will include the most precious commodity in Wrigleyville: parking!

Just as the league-leading Cubs have undergone a major rebuild, so has the Cubs' home ballpark. Now, a big chunk surrounding Wrigleyville is getting a facelift as well.

Tony Rossi Sr. and Tom Moran are two of the developers behind a massive new $150 million project that will dramatically change the southeast corner of Clark and Addison, directly across the street from Wrigley Field.

The name of the mixed use project? Addison and Clark, of course.

After today's groundbreaking ceremony, demolition crews went to work tearing down many of the old buildings that were home to businesses you probably know well if you're a Cubs fan, including Salt and Pepper Diner, Goose Island Wrigleyville, Mullens and Red Ivy.

The developers say the new complex will likely have first floor bars and restaurants that cater to fans, but also a movie theater and health club that will benefit the neighborhood when the Cubs aren't playing.

As for Wrigleyville residents, reaction is mixed.
