Dutch Bros Coffee may soon be coming to Chicago suburb

A new Dutch Bros drive-thru could be brewing up business in Oswego if plans are approved.

What we know:

The Oswego Planning and Zoning Commission is reviewing a request to annex and rezone land that could make way for a Dutch Bros drive- thru location.

Quattro Development LLC is seeking approval for two parcels on the south side of Route 34, just east of Ogden Falls Boulevard. The land is currently vacant and located in unincorporated Kendall County.

Plans show a 989-square-foot drive-thru-only Dutch Bros Coffee shop on the western portion of the site, surrounded by sidewalks, a walk-up window and outdoor seating.

The backstory:

Dutch Bros began as a pushcart coffee business in Grants Pass, Oregon, in 1992 and expanded through franchising starting in 2000. The company now operates more than 1,000 locations nationwide, selling coffee, smoothies, teas, energy drinks and other specialty beverages.

The chain has been expanding its footprint in Illinois, recently opening a location in Urbana near the University of Illinois campus. Other shops include Edwardsville, Fairview Heights and Mt. Vernon.

What's next:

The Oswego proposal also includes a second one-acre lot reserved for a future commercial building, though no specific business has been announced.
