A $10 million settlement has been reached between Sangamon County and the family of Sonya Massey, according to a report.
CHICAGO - A $10 million settlement has been reached between Sangamon County and the family of Sonya Massey, according to NPR Illinois.
The backstory:
She was shot and killed, inside her home, by former sheriff's deputy Sean Grayson last summer. Massey was experiencing a mental health crisis when she called 911.
Body camera footage shows Grayson shot her in the head after she moved a pot of boiling water from her stove.
This settlement does not impact the criminal case against Grayson.
He has pleaded not guilty to first degree murder and remains jailed with no bond.
What's next:
The Sangamon County Board will officially approve the settlement at its meeting on Tuesday.
