A distraught father is speaking out after the brutal beating of his son at a Chicago high school.

The victim's father, Gabe, says his 16-year-old son is still in the hospital being treated for a head injury.

The fight happened Monday at Kennedy High School on the Southwest Side. Police say a 16-and 17-year-old were involved. There was a verbal altercation and then the 17-year-old body slammed the other student.

Gabe says his son hit his head on the ground and was knocked unconscious. He was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center and is now in stable condition.

Now, Gabe wants answers and someone to be held accountable.

Gabe says he doesn't know what the two were fighting about and he says he was told by other students that security was in the area and did nothing. He says his family is very upset and they will hold CPS accountable. They are hoping to take legal action against the district.

Kennedy High School sent a letter home to parents saying they handled the situation under CPS policy and are working with the parents involved, adding they continue to work to provide all students a safe and positive learning environment.

“I moved out here to Garfield Ridge to get away from that, like a lot of adults do with their kids and I end up getting a phone call saying that my kid is almost dead or something like that and it's ridiculous, and no parent should go through that,” Gabe told FOX 32.

He says his son is expected to be okay, but will be in the hospital another few days.

The 17-year-old is facing one misdemeanor count of battery and will go to court next month.
