Cook County woman accused of endangering 4-year-old at daycare
COOK COUNTY - Homewood police have charged a 58-year-old daycare employee with endangering the life of a child.
It came more than a week after a disturbing incident involving a 4-year-old victim.
What we know:
According to police, the incident occurred on Jan. 13 at a daycare in the 18700 block of Dixie Highway.
Around 1 p.m., the employee, identified as Anna Petrou, of Homewood, allegedly placed the child in an alley outside the daycare for about 20 seconds in temperatures near 19 degrees.
Petrou then brought the child back inside and placed them in an empty garbage can as a form of punishment.
The incident was reported to authorities later that evening at about 8:57 p.m.
Following an investigation, Petrou was charged with one misdemeanor count of endangering the life of a child.
What we don't know:
It's unclear what led up to the employee allegedly placing the child outside and then in the garbage can.
Additionally, details about the daycare’s response to the incident have not been released.

Petrou was processed and released by Homewood police and is awaiting a future court date.
