Missing girl found after mother discovered dead in Chicago, 1 in custody

CHICAGO (Sun-Times Media Wire) - A 2-year-old girl who was reported missing after her mother was found dead Thursday morning inside an apartment in the Grand Crossing neighborhood on the South Side has been found safe, and a person is in custody, according to Chicago police.

Officers dispatched for a well-being check at 11:07 a.m. found the woman, thought to be in her 20s, dead inside a first-floor apartment in the 1400 block of East 70th Street, police said.

Her death was being investigated as a homicide and may have stemmed from a domestic incident, police said.

Police said earlier that the woman’s 2-year-old daughter was missing and may have been taken by her father. She was found safe between about 4 p.m., and a person was taken into custody around the same time, police said.

No further details were provided.

Area Central detectives are investigating.
