An 81-year-old man died in a house fire Thursday afternoon in the Ravenswood neighborhood.

An 81-year-old man died Thursday evening after a fire erupted at a home on Chicago's North Side.

What we know:

The blaze, which started around 5:30 p.m., prompted a large response from firefighters and first responders.

SkyFOX video showed firefighters on the roof surrounded by thick smoke.

Seven people were rescued from the home, but an 81-year-old man was transported to Swedish Covenant Hospital where he was pronounced dead, according to Chicago police. His identity has not yet been released.

The fire was extinguished by 5:50 p.m.

What's next:

The cause of the fire has also not been released.
