Amazon employee shot, killed outside suburban Chicago fulfillment center
Matteson police say an Amazon employee was fatally shot during an altercation outside the fulfillment center late Sunday night.
MATTESON, Ill. - A man was fatally shot after an argument with a food delivery driver outside the Amazon fulfillment center in south suburban Matteson late Sunday night, according to police.
What we know:
Matteson police responded around 10:54 p.m. to reports of shots fired at the Amazon facility located at 7001 Vollmer Road.
Officers arrived within about three minutes and found 26-year-old Dylan Perkins suffering from multiple gunshot wounds to the torso near the building's front entrance. Police said officers immediately began lifesaving efforts, including applying a tourniquet and performing CPR until paramedics arrived.
Perkins, of Glenwood, was taken to St. James Hospital in Olympia Fields, where he died from his injuries.
In a statement, Amazon said Perkins was a third-party vendor working at the Amazon facility.
"We're saddened by this senseless act of violence and are focused on supporting our employees and the victim's family during this difficult time," the company said.

Police interviewed witnesses and reviewed surveillance video, which they said showed Perkins arguing with a food delivery driver before the confrontation turned into a minor physical altercation in the Amazon parking lot. Police said the delivery driver then shot the victim several times before driving away.
Police said the shooting is an isolated incident and there is no ongoing threat to the public.

It remains unclear what sparked the argument that led to the gunfire.

Matteson police said detectives are working with the South Suburban Major Crimes Task Force to identify and charge the suspected shooter.
