Suspect dead after suburban police standoff

A police standoff lasted for more than two hours in the south suburbs.

An armed robbery suspect is dead following a police standoff in Markham Thursday.

According to police, an armed suspect robbed an AT&T store in Summit. A police chase then ensued from the store to the 1500 block of 162nd Street in Markham.

The armed suspect went into a home and fired two shots out of the house at police. 

Markham police fired one shot back.

The suspect was found dead inside the home, however, it is unclear if it was the officer's shot that killed him. 

A gun was recovered next to the suspect.

The investigation is ongoing.
