CHICAGO (STMW) - Lake County Sheriff’s deputies saved a man from a heroin overdose Wednesday in north suburban Beach Park.
Deputies responding to a call of an unresponsive person at 3:30 p.m. in the 37600 block of Geraghty Avenue found a 29-year-old man on the ground, according to a statement from the Lake County Sheriff’s office. They quickly determined he was suffering from an opioid overdose and administered a dose of Naloxone.
After regaining consciousness, the man admitted he had recently used heroin and was taken to Vista Medical Center East in Waukegan, police said.
It was the eleventh time this year that sheriff’s office personnel have saved an opioid overdose victims using Naloxone, police said.
“It is no secret, there is a widespread opioid problem in our region,” Undersheriff Ray Rose said in the statement. “In addition to preventative measures, equipping police officers with Naloxone has proven to be a first-line defense in saving lives to opioid overdose.”
