Teens steal from Chicago Macy’s after hiding inside, mapping out plan, sheriff says
CHICAGO - Two teenagers were accused of devising a plot to hide in a downtown Chicago Macy’s department store and steal merchandise after it closed this week.
What we know:
One of the teens allegedly had a plot for the theft on paper, according to the Cook County Sheriff’s Office.
Officers responded to the Macy’s on State Street on Monday after store employees saw two people on surveillance footage exiting the store overnight.
They had allegedly taken sunglasses, cologne, and clothes before leaving the store without paying.
The sheriff’s office Community Safety Team later found the teens, who were wearing the stolen clothes, and took them into custody.
The teens admitted to the officers that they hid in the store before taking the items, and that one had a map of the store with details about their plan to steal the merchandise.

Officers obtained a search warrant and recovered the stolen items from the home of one of the teens.
Both suspects were charged with burglary and released to their legal guardians.
The Cook County Sheriff's Office did not identify the suspects, likely because they were underage, but police did not disclose their ages.
