Toyota recalls over 50,000 hybrid cars due to possible loss of drive power

Toyota issued a recall for 55,405 hybrid vehicles because of an improperly tightened bolt that could cause an open circuit that may result in a loss of power, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said in a recall report

Toyota’s recall covers certain 2025-2026 Camry Hybrid and 2026 Corolla Hybrid cars.

The agency explained in their report that a vehicle loss of motive power while driving at higher speeds can increase the risk of a crash, and if the "bolt loses contact, becomes loose within the inverter assembly, and the ignition is ON," it may result in a short circuit that might elevate the risk of a fire.

Are repairs available for the recalled Toyota hybrids?

Owners of the recalled vehicles will be contacted when additional information is available about the repair remedy, which will be free of charge. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said notification letters are being mailed Jan. 30, with follow-up letters to be sent when the remedy is available.
