Two people are in critical condition after a vehicle was struck by a Metra train Tuesday morning in the South Shore neighborhood.

The vehicle was struck by Metra Electric Train No. 319 near 71st and Constance about 11:45 a.m., Metra spokesman Tom Miller said.

Two people in the vehicle were taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in serious-to-critical condition, Chicago Fire Department spokesman Jeff Lyle said. Their ages and genders weren’t immediately available.

Train No. 319, which was scheduled to arrive at 93rd Street-South Chicago at 11:57 a.m., did not run past 71st Street, according to Metra. Inbound Train No. 322 was also canceled.
