What they're saying:

Johnson told Storyful that a large, isolated thunderstorm was forming east of the front when the wave-like layer moved over the lake. The video he created is a timelapse for more dramatic effect.

"This is likely some sort of cold outflow from the thunderstorm," Johnson said.

According to Wood TV, when the cold water from the lake mixed with the moist air, it created an instant dense fog bank in the marine layer.
