Penn State tops Illinois 75-66 at Big Ten women's tourney

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Teniya Page scored 18 points, including four free throws in the final minute, and had nine assists to help 11th-seeded Penn State hold off 14-seed Illinois 75-66 on Wednesday in the first round of the Big Ten women's tournament.

The Lady Lions (12-18) will take on sixth-seeded Purdue (19-10) on Thursday.

Chatrice White tied the game for the Fighting Illini (9-21) with a basket at the start of the fourth quarter. Peyton Whitted and Brianna Banks followed with buckets to give Penn State the lead for good and the Lady Lions were up eight points after Kaliyah Mitchell's basket with 40 seconds remaining. White made two free throws for Illinois but Page followed with her four consecutive points from the line for a 10-point advantage with 23 seconds left.

Whitted had 15 points and nine rebounds.

White finished with 26 points and the sophomore reached 1,000 for her career. Kyley Simmons made five 3-pointers and added 21 points.
