Body of teen who jumped into Des Plaines River recovered
SUN-TIMES MEDIA WIRE - The body of a 16-year-old boy who went missing after jumping into the Des Plaines River Saturday in unincorporated Cook County was recovered Thursday morning.
Cameron Sanders, 16, of Villa Park was found about 150 yards from the Rainbow Bridge in the river between First Avenue and Thatcher at Division Street in Thatcher Woods about 10:25 a.m., according to a statement from Cook County sheriff’s office, which conducted the search.
The Cook County medical examiner’s office confirmed Friday that Sanders drowned.
Three teens jumped from the bridge about 4:30 p.m. Saturday just southeast of First and North avenues near Melrose Park, according to Patrick Waldron, a spokesman for Canadian National Railway. Two of the teens surfaced, but the third went missing.
“The sheriff’s office is continuing its investigation into this tragic loss of life,” according to the statement.
“Our thoughts and prayers remain with Cameron’s family at this most difficult time.”
