Some Chicago area residents under boil order

Some residents in west suburban Brookfield were under a boil order on Wednesday as crews tried to repair a water main valve.

Some Brookfield residents are under a boil water order after crews repaired a leaking water main valve, officials said Wednesday.

What we know:

Water service was shut off for homes in the 4100 and 4200 blocks of Madison Avenue while crews fixed a leak near Rochester Avenue, according to Brookfield Public Works.

With service now restored, a boil order is in place for those homes.

The order means residents should boil tap water before using it for drinking, cooking or brushing their teeth until further notice. Taking a shower doesn't require a boil.

What we don't know:

Officials did not say when the boil order would be lifted. They are awaiting lab results for the water testing.
