City leaders of Aurora share grief as mourners prepare for funerals

AURORA, Ill. (Fox 32 News) - Funeral services will be held Wednesday for the youngest victim of the deadly workplace shooting rampage that took place in Aurora.

The community is still coming to grips with everything that happened.

On Friday, a gunman opened fire at the Henry Pratt Company, killing five of his co-workers and injuring five police officers.

“We have been tried and tested but we are still here. We have been shaken, but not broken,” said Aurora Mayor Richard Irvin.

“We are feeling an emptiness in this community because they are no longer with us. Their families are now going to be a part of our family,” said Aurora Police Chief Kristen Ziman.

“It may be a long and painful time, but we will heal,” Mayor Irvin added.

On Tuesday, we learned the youngest victim, 21-year-old NIU intern Trevor Wehner, will be laid to rest Wednesday.

“We feel their loss and hurt for the pain they are experiencing. As a community, we will turn the pain into brighter stronger tomorrow,” Mayor Irvin said.

Aurora police have also revealed they have no record that state police notified them that the shooters gun license was revoked, and that he should not have had a gun.

All officers have been released from the hospital, and more than $125,000 dollars has been raised for the families of the employees killed.
