Convenience store clerk shoots boy, 16, woman in attempted robbery in Round Lake Beach

A convenience store clerk shot a teenage boy and a woman during an attempted robbery Monday night in north suburban Round Lake Beach.

About 10:50 p.m., an armed 16-year-old boy and a 20-year-old woman entered a store in the 10000 block of Fairfield Road and ordered the employees behind the counter, Round Lake Beach police said in a statement.

That’s when one employee took out a gun and shot at the teen and woman, police said.

The teen and woman left the store and drove off in a waiting vehicle toward a dead-end road, police said. Two other people in the car, including the driver, stopped the car and ran off — leaving the injured teen and woman behind.

The woman and teen were taken to Condell Medical Center in Libertyville, police said.

The boy was released from a hospital Tuesday and transferred to Depke Juvenile Detention Center in Vernon Hills, Round Lake Beach Deputy Chief Wayne Wilde said in an email.

The woman remains in the hospital with injuries that are not life-threatening, Wilde said.

The driver and passenger have not been located.
