Couple found dead with gunshot wounds in Bensenville home

A couple was found dead with gunshot wounds inside their home Wednesday morning in northwest suburban Bensenville.

Officers conducted a well-being check at the home in the 1300 block of West Indian Trail Drive at 6:05 a.m., Police Chief Frank Kosman said.

Tanya Jenkins, 40, and her 54-year-old husband Michael Jenkins were found dead inside, authorities said.

Tanya Jenkins suffered multiple gunshot wounds, while Michael Jenkins died of a single gunshot wound, according to the DuPage County coroner’s office. Their manners of death are pending further investigation..

Neighbors are baffled inside the Mohawk Terrace subdivision in Bensenville.

“I don't know what happened. All I know is that there were police cars there this morning and I drove over here and they said there was a couple of people deceased in the house,” one neighbor said.

Neighbors say a married couple and their teenage daughter lived at the house. However, the daughter is currently out of state.

The wife was described as a hard-working woman who loves to run, according to her running partner.

“She had a pretty good job. She worked 60 to 80 hours a week,” they said.

Neighbors aren't sure how this could have happened, tracing back their last encounters with the couple as they continue to wait for answers.

Kosman said the DuPage Major Crimes Task Force and the DuPage County state’s attorney’s office are assisting with the investigation.
