TAMPA (FOX 13) - Edible cookie dough. This is what dreams are made of.
Dough Nation opens on Friday in downtown Tampa, where they are serving up desserts with raw edible cookie dough. It is a business model that Metropolitan Ministries decided to introduce, where all profits will go to support hunger programs at the organization. Within the last year, more than 1.5 million meals were served through its programs.
The idea started years ago in a small booth at the Gasparilla Music Festival. They sampled a few flavors and had people lining up for more. Thus, Dough Nation was created.
You have plenty of flavors to choose from: Peanut Butter Fluff, Toasty S’more (in a cup!), Chocolate Chip, Sugar Cookie, and so much more. It’s all edible and is made with heat-treated flour and pasteurized egg product that makes it safe to eat. If you desire, you can even take the cookie dough home and bake it.
There are also ice cream sandwiches and shakes -- because options are important.
Dough Nation will also serve as a training platform for students of the Metropolitan Ministries culinary program who are transitioning out of homelessness, according to its website. Several graduates of the program now work at local restaurants.
It’s a sweet new brand, and you can get your “dough-nation” on for a good cause starting on October 6.
