Sen. Dick Durbin expressed doubts about U.S. Attorney General nominee Pam Bondi in a series of posts on X Friday morning.

What He Said:

The Illinois Democrat outlined several concerns, including Bondi’s reluctance to acknowledge that Donald Trump lost the 2020 election.

"I’m dumbfounded that when asked not once… not twice… but MULTIPLE times… whether Donald Trump lost the 2020 election, Pam Bondi refused to answer. Why couldn’t she state plainly, 'Donald Trump lost' when asked?" Durbin wrote in the thread.

Durbin also criticized Bondi’s description of a "peaceful transition of power" following the 2020 election.

"I saw the insurrectionist mob that stormed the Capitol seeking to "HANG MIKE PENCE." January 6, 2021 was anything but peaceful," he said.

The senator also noted Bondi’s unwillingness to share her opinion on whether individuals who assaulted police officers during the Capitol riots should be pardoned.

Who is Pam Bondi?

What we know:

Pam Bondi, the former attorney general of Florida, was tapped by President-elect Donald Trump to be the next U.S. attorney general.

Bondi was Trump’s second choice for the job – former Florida Rep. Matt Gaetz withdrew from consideration after meeting with Republican senators who questioned Gaetz’s multiple misconduct allegations.

Bondi, a 59-year-old Tampa native, has been a regular in Trump’s orbit for more than a decade.

When Trump’s first attorney general, Jeff Sessions, was ousted in 2018, Bondi’s name was floated as a possible candidate for the job. Trump at the time said he would "love" Bondi to join the administration. He ultimately selected William Barr instead.

If confirmed by the Republican-led Senate, Bondi would instantly become one of the most closely watched members of Trump’s Cabinet given the Republican’s threat to pursue retribution against perceived adversaries and concern among Democrats that he will look to bend the Justice Department to his will.
