Early morning commercial burglaries reported across multiple Chicago neighborhoods: police

The Brief

    • Chicago Police are warning of a string of commercial burglaries across multiple neighborhoods from Jan. 12 through Feb. 12, targeting businesses in areas including Lake View, Lincoln Park, Brighton Park, West Town and others.
    • In each case, four to seven suspects dressed in black clothing and ski masks allegedly smashed glass doors or windows with sledgehammers or pry bars, stealing cash, registers, ATMs and merchandise before fleeing in a vehicle.
    • Police urge business owners to improve lighting, secure doors and windows, report suspicious activity, preserve surveillance footage and contact detectives or submit anonymous tips with reference number 26-CWP-003D.

CHICAGO - Chicago Police are warning the public of numerous commercial burglaries in recent weeks.

What we know:

In each of the incidents, four to seven suspects broke a glass front door or window with sledgehammers or pry bars to enter the business. Then the suspects removed money, cash registers, ATMs and merchandise from the business and fled the scene in a car.

The suspects are being described as wearing black ski masks, black hooded sweatshirts and black pants.

Police are reminding the public to keep the property perimeter well lit, doors and windows locked, report any suspicious behavior, save any surveillance video, and call 911.
