Eating magic mushrooms can clear up depression, researchers say

Remember when magic mushrooms were just for tripping?

Well, it turns out.. They could be the key to treating depression.

London researchers say the natural psychedelic compound in magic mushrooms shows promise as a treatment for depression.

They found that patients taking mushrooms to treat depression showed reduced symptoms lasting up to five weeks weeks after treatment.

Researchers believe the psychedelic compound may effectively reset the activity of key brain circuits known to play a role in depression.

But the authors warn the research is preliminary and patients with depression should not try to self-medicate.
