Fatal hit-and-run in St. Charles leaves 27-year-old dead, driver charged
ST. CHARLES, Ill. - A 27-year-old man has died after a hit-and-run in St. Charles, Ill. on Wednesday, according to police.
The backstory:
Around 10:52 p.m., officials responded to the intersection of Country Club Road and North 5th Avenue. According to reports, an SUV and a motorcycle were involved in a crash with injuries. A witness said that the driver of the SUV had fled the scene.
When they arrived, officials found the motorcycle driver, a 27-year-old man from Elgin, injured. He was transported to Northwestern Medicine Delnor Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
Police found the SUV and its driver near the scene. After an investigation, the driver, Morgan Mroz, 29, of West Chicago, was arrested.
Mroz was charged with one felony count of failure to report a crash, two felony counts of aggravated DUI causing death, a felony count of reckless homicide, a felony count of possession of a controlled substance, and four additional traffic citations.
