Homer Glen elementary school cleared after bomb threat
HOMER GLEN, Ill. (STMW) - An elementary school in southwest suburban Homer Glen was evacuated Tuesday morning after someone left a voicemail saying there was a bomb in the building, but no bomb was found.
An unidentified person left a voicemail over the weekend saying a bomb was inside William Young Elementary School at 16240 S. Cedar Rd. in Homer Glen, according to Kathy Hoffmeyer, spokeswoman for the Will County sheriff’s office.
Office personnel arrived at work Tuesday morning and heard the message, Hoffmeyer said. Students were immediately evacuated and taken across the street to Luther Schilling School.
Sheriff’s deputies searched the school and did not find a bomb, Hoffmeyer said. The DuPage County Bomb Squad also searched the building with canines before the “all clear” was given.
Students and staff were allowed back into the building at 11:55 a.m., Hoffmeyer said.
The sheriff’s office is investigating who left the voicemail.
