Man dead, two women injured in Arlington Heights house fire

ARLINGTON HEIGHTS (STMW) - A 68-year-old man was found dead and two women were hospitalized after a house fire early Tuesday in northwest suburban Arlington Heights.

Fire crews responded about 2 a.m. to a blaze in the house in the 1600 block of West Waverly Court, according to a statement from Arlington Heights police. Initial reports were that two people were trapped inside.

Officers arrived and found one person in the front yard, police said. A second resident was found in the backyard.

A man was unaccounted for and later found dead in the home by firefighters, police said. He had not been identified as of Wednesday afternoon. An autopsy did not reveal his cause and manner of death, pending the fire investigation.

A 68-year-old woman was taken to Northwest Community Hospital, where she was treated and released, police said. A 30-year-old woman was taken to Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood, but her condition was unknown.

The Arlington Heights Fire Department is investigating the blaze, along with police and the State Fire Marshal. The cause remains undetermined.
